A Seat at the Table: Representing the Future of Cornish Tech at Downing Street

February 3, 2026

2026 is in full swing, and for our first post of the year, we’re proud to share a milestone moment, not just for Hertzian, but for Cornwall’s growing tech ecosystem.

Last week, our CEO, Christopher Weavill, was invited by John Brown, the CEO of the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce, to join a small delegation of Cornish representatives at No. 11 Downing Street. The meeting, held with Rt Hon Rachel Reeves, Chancellor of the Exchequer, brought together key voices from across Cornwall to discuss the challenges facing the county and the practical steps the Government could take to better support its people and businesses.

Chris's attendance at this meeting was about more than representing Hertzian. It was about ensuring Cornwall’s tech community had a voice in national decision-making. As a small company headquartered far from the traditional centres of UK tech, this moment reinforced a belief we’ve held from day one: meaningful impact isn’t defined by postcode or headcount.

We asked Chris to reflect on the experience. This is what he shared:

“Walking through the black door of No.11 Downing Street is not an everyday occurrence for a tech founder from Cornwall. People often talk about the "London Bubble,"  but standing in that room, I felt a genuine desire to burst it.

I'm often asked by big corporate and private equity companies why on earth did I incorporate what is a completely digital business in Cornwall. Obviously the magic triangle is better, and most of our revenue is international so being close to a well connected airport is essential! I'll be honest, that's a hard question to answer, commercially it's not very defensible when you look at the numbers and I do have doubts about Cornwall and the ability of this county to overcome those challenges.

But there are great people here, who mean well and push ahead aggressively. I'm heartened by individuals like John Brown, Jayne Kirkham and Perran Moon, taking Cornwall to the front steps of Downing Street. It fills me with hope that Cornwall can be a place of real innovation and prosperity which goes beyond lithium, minerals and a circular economy of publicly funded programs and companies. Cornwall can be the heart of commercial enterprise which is profitable and sustainable indefinitely.

Leaving No.11, I got my obligatory photos and felt optimistic. Not just for my own business, but for the ecosystem we are building down here. The future of UK Tech and Innovation is not limited to the triangle, and Cornwall is leading in this space. I'm happy I can play a small part in that story here in Cornwall with my colleagues and partners.”

To those who have supported us on this journey and to our fellow Cornish innovators, builders, and believers thank you. At Hertzian, we remain committed to doing our part to make our home, Cornwall a stronger, fairer, and more ambitious place to build and live.
